6. May 2025
The unveiling of the General Kutlvašr Monument on 5 May, a new monument dedicated to General Karel Kutlvašr, an important figure in Czechoslovak history, was unveiled at the Nusle Brewery. This project is part of our long-term effort to enrich public spaces with quality art and commemorate important historical figures.
The monument ‘The Battalion of General Kutlvašr – Nothing Can Be Done Without Risk!’, designed by Zlín-based designer Ondřej Tichý, was selected as part of an art competition organised by Penta Real Estate. The work symbolises courage, determination and empathy, values that General Kutlvašr embodied. The monument also includes a quote from a 1939 conversation between Kutlvašr and a colleague: ‘Nothing is done without risk!’
General Karel Kutlvašr was a Czechoslovak Legionnaire, commander of the Prague Uprising and a victim of political persecution by the Communist regime. After many years of imprisonment, he became a night watchman at the Nusle Brewery. After 1989 he was fully rehabilitated and posthumously promoted to army general.
This monument is not only a tribute to General Kutlvašr, but also a reminder of his courage and determination, which are an inspiration to us all. We hope that this work of art will bring positive energy to the Nusle Brewery and serve as a place to respect and reflect on our history.
