A ceremonial unveiling of the street names took place this morning. The streets within Nová Waltrovka will bear the names of Czechoslovak hockey representatives and world hockey champions from the late 1940s, to whom the communist regime had repaid thei duty with long-term prison terms. The plan was approved by the Topographic Commission of the City Council of Prague and subsequently by the City Council of Prague. The naming of new streets after three hockey legends was also supported by the Prague 5 district, and it is also appreciated by the leadership of the Czech Ice Hockey Association.

This is a story of communist injustice that must not be forgotten. We are pleased, that the streets within Nová Waltrovka will bear the names of the heroes from the Olympics in St. Moritz and from the hockey championships of 1947 and 1949 –  we believe, that such an address will be a good place to live for the residents of this new city district. It is for the first time ever, that imprisoned hockey players will be honored in this way,” says Martin Mafka, Head of Project management at Penta Real Estate.

The central square of Nová Waltrovka will bear the name of Augustin Bubník. Vladimír Kobranov will lend his name to the street in the western part of the zone, between the Zleep Hotel and residential houses. Furthermore, the road connecting Radlicka Street with the planned development on the northern slope above Nová Waltrovka will be named after Václav Roziňák.

The Nová Waltrovka project follows-up on the successful revitalization of a large area after the formerly famous Walter aircraft engine factory. During the years 2014–2021, a new district was created in this part of Prague’s Jinonice, with 700 housing units, a kindergarten, a two-hectare park and several office buildings developed in several stages of construction.
