The last large brownfield site in the centre of Prague is changing thanks to four architectural competitions, which are now entering their final phase. An international jury, led by German architect Stefan Behnisch, has selected the finalists from 157 studios from 33 countries. The competitions are a follow-up to the Florenc21 urban planning workshop, which aimed to find the optimal solution for the technically and transportationally challenging area of Prague’s Florenc district.

The current competitions focus on the western part of the area around Prague’s Magistrála road. In the next stages, the architects will deal with the area of the Florenc bus station and the surroundings of the Negrelli viaduct and the historic houses towards Křižíkova Street. The greatest interest was in block B04, which is clearly visible from the main thoroughfare and from trains leaving from the Main or Masaryk Railway Station.
